Becca Bradley wrote a new song around Dykes’ “Holy, Holy, Holy”

J-P Mauro - published on 11/30/17

There should be more Christian songs written around beautiful hymns.

Becca Bradley is a singer and cellist who has been making independent Christian music since the release of her first EP, Shaken, in 2014. Her big sister Melissa introduced her to her cello and she developed her talent as a singer at Belmont University, where she converted to Christianity and received a degree in Commercial Music.

“Holy, Holy, Holy” is her first single from her upcoming untitled album, which she is funding through Kickstarter. She took the melody of the chorus from John Bacchus Dykes’ hymn and surrounded it with a lovely pop song. Bradley’s style sounds like a mix of Audrey Assad’s ethereal atmosphere with a voice and energy like Taylor Swift.

The lyrics of the hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy” were written by Reginald Herber and they were recited by his widow at his funeral. A music publisher in attendance fell in love with the words, immediately wanting to turn them into lyrics. He requested a hymn setting from John Bacchus Dykes, who completed the tune just 30 minutes after receiving the lyrics.

In the two years since her last album, Becca has been posting music videos in what she calls “Roadtrip Sessions” with her friends.
