Pentatonix became popular after winning the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off. The group of 5 vocalist has since found success with their a cappella arrangements, which have led them to win three Grammy Awards.
Their latest album is a re-release of their 2016 Christmas album as a Deluxe Edition. In this version there are 5 new tracks, including “Deck the Halls,” “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!” and this rendition of “Away in a Manger.”
This is the first release since their bass singer, Avi Kaplan, left the group to pursue a solo career. The remaining four members are carrying forward and seem to have made the adjustments needed, because they are just as good as they’ve always been.
Pentatonix’s arrangements obviously take a great deal of thought and effort to put together. They excel at creating tight melodies with voices that seamlessly fit together in time and timbre.
They won’t be without a bass for long; they have already replaced Kaplan with Matt Sallee. The additions to their Christmas album are sadly without the low notes, but we can look forward to all 5 voices on their next release.
