The official welcome song for the Chilean papal visit

J-P Mauro - published on 09/26/17

The Latin beat is sure to make you dance in jubilation.

Américo began singing at a 8 years old and released his first album a year later. As a teenager he was discovered by the band Alegría and became their lead singer. The band was very successful and released 11 albums before they broke up in 2002.

In 2005, he started another band called La Nueva Alegría, which is still active today with six records and 14 singles to their credit. Américo is currently a coach on La Voz Ecuador, an Ecuadorian version of The Voice.

Américo wrote “Mi Paz les Doy” for Pope Francis’s upcoming visit to Chile. It was entered into a competition with 20 other songs, which it won and has become the official theme of the visit.

In an interview with Emol.com, Américo spoke about the honor of having his song selected:

“Once we were told that we made it, the truth is that what you feel is indescribable because it is a historical fact, a unique experience. I feel blessed to be able to occupy this humble and small space in what the pope’s visit means.”

Pope Francis is scheduled to make an apostolic journey to Chile and Peru in January, 2018. He will be in Chile from the January 15-18. From there he will go to Peru from January 18-21.
