When Dr. Carey Andrew-Jaja began as a resident, he met an OBGYN on staff who sang to each baby he delivered. When this mentor retired, he passed the baton onto Dr. Andrew-Jaja.
“They’re special. Each one of them is an individual,” he explains, referring to each newborn child. In his long career as an obstetrician, Dr. Andrew-Jaja has even delivered a father and son, whom he affectionately refers to as his “grandchild.” His delight over each new life never runs dry, and his joy overflows infectiously, as exclaims to newborn Thalia, “Welcome to our wonderful world!”

As he talks with “his babies,” Dr. Andrew-Jaja’s voice fills with so much affection that you would think they were his own. “I feel an obligation and I enjoy another opportunity to celebrate with the family,” he says. “I like to do that.” The doctor’s unique celebration of each birth testifies to the value of that baby’s life. What better way to welcome them to the world than by singing to them in celebration so that they know that each of them is loved and treasured?
