After being attacked in Marseilles, France, on Sunday by a woman who threw acid at her and three of her companions, Boston College student Courtney Siverling went on Facebook to say that she forgave her attacker.

In the post she wrote, “I pray that the attacker would be healed from her mental illness in the name of Jesus and receive the forgiveness and salvation that can only come from Him.”

Siverling and her friends, Charlotte Kaufman, Michelle Krug and Kelsey Kosten, are members of the Boston College class of 2019 and were in Europe for a study abroad program, according to a Fox News report, when they were attacked. Boston College is a Jesuit Catholic university.

The women were treated and released from the hospital later that day, after the attacker, a woman with a history of mental health problems, sprayed a solution of hydrochloric acid on them.

Krug also posted to Facebook letting her friends know that she was okay, and asking them to pray for her attacker. She wrote, “I ask that if you send thoughts and prayers our way, please consider thinking about/praying for our attacker so that she may receive the help she needs and deserves. Mental illness is not a choice and should not be villainized.”

French authorities do not believe the attacker was motivated by extremist views and the incident is not thought to be terrorism-related, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.
