“Holy, Holy, Holy” is the second track from Audrey Assad’s award winning 2016 album, Inheritance. This lovely album is full of wonderful re-imaginings of old hymns, along side a few original pieces.
Assad’s music video perfectly combines meditative effects with an organ and a determined drum beat in support of her lilting vocals. Her Celtic style echoes around an ethereal arrangement to create a very comforting, soothing atmosphere, which she builds, expertly, from beginning to end.
We particularly appreciate Assad’s choice to keep herself out of her music videos, a decision which serves to remove herself from the prayer; this allows the audience to better focus on praising the glory of God.
This removal of the self demonstrates a real (and edifying) humility on the singer’s part, and adds a certain reverence for the material. It really makes “Holy, Holy, Holy” — as well as others from Inheritance, like “Ubi Caritas” — effective and unique tools for prayer.

The Christ Beat has Audrey recounting her decision to include “Holy, Holy, Holy” on the album:
“This trinitarian, theology-heavy prayer became an intercessory prayer for Avery, a toddler with heterotaxy, a severe heart condition. The word ‘holy,’ which we traditionally associate with God’s ineffability and super-righteousness, refers also to His infinite mercy because of how He chose to deposit His holiness in the tabernacle on the seat of Mercy. While I didn’t know what or how to pray for Avery, I remember that the Holy Spirit prays for us. Even when we don’t ‘feel’ like praying, the words of ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ give us a beautiful prayer about a loving and merciful God.”
