A gentle prayer from the most popular Catholic singer in Argentina

J-P Mauro - published on 09/13/17

At a young age, Athenas Venica felt a deep calling to become a Christian singer.

Athenas Venica began singing at a young age. She has studied musical comedy since she was 8 years old. At 15, Athenas joined a youth group that exposed her to Christian pop music and felt a deep calling to become a Christian singer.

She began recording Christian songs of her own and, in 2012, she was discovered by producer Jonatan Narvaez, who proposed that they work together on songs and videos. The pair was very successful together and Athenas became so popular that she was invited to sing for Pope Francis during World Youth Day, 2013.

In 2014, Athenas gave an interview to Aleteia’s Stephen Pittaro in which she spoke about her inspirations and what lead her to Christian music.

You could have tried a career in the secular world … Where did the desire to channel musical efforts in song to God come from? God places in our heart a vocation, a call, a purpose. A desire to fulfill ourselves in some area of our life and in that to announce the Love of God. I believe that from there come all my desire, because God first deposited the “want” in my life to do what I do today, and that is what fulfills me, makes me immensely happy. How important was faith in your upbringing? It was the most important thing in my upbringing since I have the blessing of knowing Jesus from the beginning of my life. He was always a God present through the testimony of my family, especially my mother. I accompanied her to prayer groups, Masses and more. Do you feel that you pray when you sing? All the songs that I have the blessing to interpret speak explicitly of a personal or community relationship with Jesus or are of adoration, so they can be songs of prayer, which is simply to communicate with that close and loving God who is always waiting for our meeting.
