In 2011, a group of scholars in the University of Chicago completed a 90-year-old task: they put together a dictionary of the world’s oldest written language: Mesopotamian Assyrian. Although unspoken for the last 2,000 years, this language was preserved in tablets and deciphered throughout the decades.

As Open Culture reports, were you to buy a hard copy of this dictionary, it would cost you around $1,000. But these PDFs, which the University has been kind enough to share, won’t cost you a dime.
