The eyes of the nation are on Houston today as the flooding caused by hurricane Harvey has devastated the area. While standing on the side, watching the water, two boys spotted a kayak floating down the flood path. They jumped in to try and grab it, but one boy became stuck in neck-high water for nearly 20 minutes.
The rescue boats were all in other areas conducting searches and there was little time to wait. A small rescue crew was able to throw a buoy line to the boy and pull him out before he could come to serious harm.
The Blaze reports that this incident was captured on video by area resident Heidi Hall. Hall was perplexed as to why the boys would put themselves at such risk over a kayak.
“The current was obviously really strong but they swam out anyway. One of them managed to get to the shore but this kid was stuck for about 20 minutes just holding on to a submerged buoy line. All of the major rescue teams are downtown so this group didn’t have time to wait for a boat to appear.”
