Beer-maker sends 155,000 cans of water to Hurricane Harvey victims

Anheuser-Busch’s Cartersville, Georgia brewery has halted production of beer to send much-needed drinking water to victims of Hurricane Harvey.

In response to the disaster, the brewery has sent 155,000 cans of drinking water to Texas and Louisiana, according to an NBC News report. Instead of shipping beer, the Georgia brewery’s 250 trucks are now shipping cans of drinking water to communities affected by Harvey.

The relief effort is part of the company’s emergency water program, made possible by a 100-year-old partnership with  the American Red Cross, Bill Bradley, Anheuser-Busch’s VP of Community Affairs, told NBC. The company shuts down production twice a year to provide drinking water to those in need.

“Since 1988 we have donated in excess of 76 million cans of clean drinking water,” Bradley said. “The Cartersville location is our designated brewery for the emergency water program — it’s something we’re very proud of.”

MillerCoors has also contributed to relief efforts in the state, and has sent 50,000 cans of water to Red Cross shelters serving Harvey victims, according to a report in The Hill.
