The Oscar winner shares a little of his faith with Michael Strahan.

Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey appeared on Good Morning America to plug his new film, The Dark Tower. Towards the end, host Micheal Strahan wished McConaughey’s son Levi a happy 9th birthday. McConaughey then shared the meaning of his sons’ names with the former NFL juggernaut.

His children’s names are Levi, Vita, and Livingston. Levi’s name is short for Leviticus. McConaughey explains the names around 3:58 into the video:

“Levi is another name for Matthew, in the Bible. We’d talked about possible Matthew Jr. if we had a boy. My favorite book in the bible is Matthew 6:22 ‘If thy eye be single thy whole body will be full of light.’ So, Levi was one of six possible boy names and he was born. You’re not thinking about the name right? An hour later the doctor comes up and hands you that card that you fill out, [it said] ‘Blank was born at 6:22pm.’ So we went ‘It’s Levi!'”

God Vine reports that while McConaughey has often struggled with his faith, his wife’s devotion has helped him return to church.
