These Millennial women are pushing past the statistics and defining themselves in a new way.

Lazy, entitled, “special snowflakes” … the millennial generation gets a bad rep. Littered with self-imposed labels and more than a couple misnomers, this generation has been accused of being self-obsessed and weak, but they aren’t as monochrome as one might think. One of the more positive labels we’ve been given is the “pro-life generation.” But is it true?

The video below provides the numbers: 60 percent of millennials support legal abortion in all or most cases, and yet 65 percent identify as “pro-life.”

For years, the battle of the numbers has raged on, arguing over whether the millennial generation really is the “pro-life generation” or not. So America Magazine decided to take a slightly different approach when they interviewed 7 millennial women who identify themselves as “pro-life” about their experiences. Democratic socialist, libertarian, conservative — these millennials prove that the pro-life stance isn’t easily boxed in, as they recount the struggle to contradict the “old white man wanting to control my body” stereotype.

One woman recounts, “I also am an outspoken feminist, so they’re like, ‘Hey, wait, I thought if you were a feminist, you’d agree with me and be pro-choice. I thought that’s a thing that goes hand-in-hand.'” But more and more young women are adopting the title of “pro-life feminist” to show that the two ideals are not necessarily contradictory.
