Since her 2007 debut album Say It, Britt Nicole has grown a large Christian following. Her second and third albums, The Lost Get Found and Gold, reached #1 on the Christian music chart. Gold made her the most played female Christian artist in 2012 and boasted crossover success.
“Be the Change” is off her most recent album, Britt Nicole (2016), and has a very contemporary sound that could be mistaken for a top 40 hit. She spoke with The Christian Beat about hearing the first track with her husband. She immediately felt a connection to the music:
We were going through tracks pretty fast and thinking they were cool, but moving on to the next one. And then we got to that one. And it has the beginning, which has an almost tribal sound, and I really thought that one was cool. And my husband told me that track was actually for another artist. And in that moment I was like, “No, I love that one!” And so I asked him to go back and replay it and I immediately got what I call a God moment – the lyrics and melody just came.
She told Free CCM “Be the Change” is about taking the initiative. When we know what we want, we need to be the catalyst for that change.
“Whatever dream is in your heart, whatever you feel called to do to make a difference and to make a change, you can start right now. I just love when we step out that other people start to feel that fire and they start to step out too. That’s what we’re called to do. We’re called to be the change, to be light, to be hope, to be joy and to bring that to the world around us. I know if we come together that we can be the change in our cities, schools, our workplace, our homes, wherever we are.” – Britt Nicole
