Make a joyful noise: The praise styling of Father Albert Ofere

J-P Mauro - published on 06/14/17

His smile is contagious, and his music makes you want to dance

“Onye Oma” is the first single Father Albert Ofere has released since his debut album Everyday of My Life, in 2015. The track is another example of the “New Gospel” genre which is popular in Africa right now.

The music melds African themes with a hip-hop beat, and even a little auto-tune, to create a fun song of thanksgiving which almost begs to be danced to. We especially enjoyed the fleet guitar work, which is set with a delay for a laid back, tropical feel.

The accompanying video is filled with beautiful shots of African landscapes and a reverent view of parish life. It seems like Fr. Ofere and his supporting cast had the time of their lives making it. He is known in his community for his happy demeanor and always wearing a smile. It’s infectious.
