The impressive boy-soprano who won Musician of the Year

J-P Mauro - published on 06/09/17

Aksel Rykkvin sings like an angel, with the vocal prowess of an adult.

Aksel Rykkvin is a boy-soprano from Norway. He won the 2014/15 Norwegian Music Competition for Youth in the category of singers 10 to 15 years old. Two years later he won the entire 2016/17 competition and earned the title “Musician of the Year.”

Rykkvin has traveled all over Norway singing in concerts and festivals. He has been invited to work with all the biggest orchestras including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra.

In March 2016, Aksel achieved international acclaim for his interpretation of The Boy in Rolf Wallin’s science fiction opera Elysium at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet. The Financial Times wrote that Aksel was “Freakishly good, with a musical assurance and richness of tone that are almost superhuman.”

Aksel released his first album, Arias by Bach, Handel and Mozart, in fall 2016. He recorded it in England with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, conducted by Nigel Short. It has met with international success.
