A Prayer for Mondays

When we wish it were Friday

Mondays — the hardest day of the week. After a weekend full of activity, who wants to adjust to the “daily grind”?

Even more so, when looking at the upcoming week and all the deadlines, after-school activities and social events, it is easy to get overwhelmed and wish it was already over; on Monday we wish it were Friday!

One good way to start off the week is to say a simple prayer. Here is a short but powerful prayer from Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) that can help you relax and put the rest of the week in the hands of God.

We may not be able to see very far ahead and may long for Friday, but the good news is that God is in control. By offering the week to God, we take all the pressure off ourselves and let him take the wheel. We never know what plans he has in store for us.

I surrender myself entirely to Your divine will, O Lord.

Make my heart grow greater and wider, out of itself into the Divine Life.
O my God, fill my soul with holy joy, courage and strength to serve You.

Enkindle Your love in me and then walk with me along the next stretch of road before me.
I do not see very far ahead, but when I have arrived where the horizon now closes down, a new prospect will open before me, and I shall meet it with peace.
