A worthy tradition to add to your devotions for the most somber day of the year.

Below is an ancient and powerful prayer that has been passed down over the years and can be prayed individually or as a family.

According to tradition, the prayer is prayed 33 times between noon and 3:00 on Good Friday, remembering Christ’s most beautiful sacrifice on the cross, and the hours that he hung there.

It is said 33 times in honor of the tradition that holds Jesus spent 33 years on earth before he died.

Some families pray the prayer 33 times starting at noon, the hour of the crucifixion, and then stay in silence until 3, the hour of Our Lord’s death.

The prayer is short and a worthy tradition to add to your devotions for the most somber day of the year.

Oh my Jesus, I supplicate Thee by the precious blood of Thy divine heart, through the intercession of Thy sorrowful mother, by Thy painful passion and cruel death, to assist me in this pressing necessity. Amen.
