You know how your husband is always filling in little bits of stories you forget, or how you’re always reminding him of people’s names? Turns out that’s not just because you’re bad at telling stories and he’s bad with names — it’s because couples in long-term relationships develop interconnected memory systems.
It’s called “collaborative remembering,” and it deepens the longer a relationship lasts. As couples grow older they even begin to rely on each other to fill in personal memories, instead of just ones they shared. Oh yeah, and the more intimate the couples are, the more interconnected their memory systems become. Bow-chicka-bow-wow!
