Cecilia is proud to bring you an early look at Matt Maher and Audrey Assad’s song “Oh Mercy,” off The Beatitudes, which is scheduled to hit the shelves on April 21. The Beatitudes is just one aspect of a much larger work, spearheaded by musician and producer Stu Garrard, called The Beatitudes Project, which encompasses a book, an album, and

.

“Oh Mercy” was written by Garrard, Maher and Ian Cron. Audrey Assad joins Maher for the performance and the result is the same high quality that we’ve come to expect from these industry standards. NCR has Maher talking about his inspiration for The Beatitudes:

Part of Maher’s inspiration surrounding the Beatitudes came from a 2002 World Youth Day event in Toronto. “It was 300,000 young people from all around the world, and the pope at the time, John Paul II, was there,” Maher said in the album’s press release. “In his opening address, he talked about the Beatitudes. He talked about how the Church needed to be a place where we fostered and encouraged the Beatitudes so much that we actually became a people known by those Beatitudes. I think that’s a challenging commission.”
