WATCH: Saudi bakery thrives using a “trust box” instead of a cashier

Zelda Caldwell - published on 04/05/17

Customers decide how much money to put in, after making their selections.

A bakery in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, is banking on the honesty of its customers.

A year an a half ago, owner Ghazi Hassan Tass decided to conduct an experiment. Instead of having a cashier, he would let people deposit their money in a “trust box” after deciding on their purchases.

“I wanted to try this idea, Can we really trust people?” says Tass in this video.

“And oh my God! People proved that they deserve to be trusted.”

So far, the business’ credo, “We trust you with no limits,” has paid off: Business is up by almost 50 percent compared to last year.

And for those who can’t afford to pay? “It’s for free!” said Tass.
