A book so good his pastor ordered a copy for everyone in their huge parish...[Aleteia loves books but recognizes that a world busy with social media doesn’t afford many prompts to that old conversation-starter, “Read any good books lately?” So, we’re asking it in this space. Here, Aleteia‘s Art Director, Jeffrey Bruno, shares what he can’t seem to put down right now. – Ed.]
“I’m reading Resisting Happiness by Matthew Kelly,” says Jeff. “Msgr. Ken Tuzenue of St. Mary’s Parish in Barnegat/Manahawkin [New Jersey] bought a gazillion of them to hand out to parishioners and an usher handed me a copy as I left Mass. My wife and my religious ed teaching assistant both said I had to read it… and they were right.”
Why is it such a must-read? “It’s so incredibly real and relevant; it makes you realize just how much each of us fights God in small (and big) ways in our pursuit of holiness, without even realizing it,” says Jeff. “After reading just a few pages it opened my eyes to what I need to work on to attain true happiness. It’s a must-read for everyone, from non-Catholics to the most devout. I totally get why Msgr. Ken bought them for the entire parish.”
(And by the way, Jeff says there are something like 12,000 parishioners at St. Mary’s, so that’s a lot of books!)
