My help will come from the Lord, my God, for He is merciful!
The author of the 2016 World Youth Day theme song shares with us the insipiration behind the music: “I read these words while I was invoking the protection of God and asking for his support in realizing my dreams, including that of writing the 2016 World Youth Day song. And in that moment I knew: The Lord made me a promise. The confirmation was another passage in the Bible where God assures Moses: ‘I have also endowed all artists with the necessary skill to make all the things I have commanded you’ (Ex 31:6b). Trusting in this motivation, I took the guitar in my hands…the chorus was ready in very little time.”
Jakub Blycharz, composer and author of the 2016 Krakow World Youth Day Hymn, right after winning the contest for the official hymn told us that he had sought out inspiration in the Bible before going to work on the song. And that is how his work on the song begun which begins with an excerpt from Psalm 121. The bridge of the song is an encouragement to live in the sign of hope and trust stemming from the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
