The recently liberated Palmyra, in Syria, celebrated the end of the city’s occupation by ISIS forces with a triumphal concert conducted by the renowned Valery Gergiev, who conducted the St. Petersburg’s Mariiinsky Theatre Orchestra in the very same ancient Roman amphitheater the extremists used to execute captured Syrian soldiers back in November 2015.
The concert, held on May 5, commemorated Aleksandr Prokhorenko, the Russian officer who was killed during the battle to recover Palmyra from the occupying extremists’ forces.
