The integrated arts festival attracts, yearly, more than one million people to live a “feast that never ends,” in different brazilian cities. The event, which began 20 years ago in Brazil, and which already took place in Uruguay, Italy, France and Holy Land and in Rio de Janeiro World Youth Day, will take place for the first time in Krakow (Poland), between the 27th and the 29th of July as a part of the Youth Festival of the World Youth Day.
The Halleluya in Krakow will happen on Szczepanski square, a few meters far from the Market Place in Krakow city centre. The expectative is to reach an audience between seven and ten thousand young people. There will be 15 presentations of music, theatre and dance, with attractions in several languages: english, polish, french and italian.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The event Halleluya was born in 1985 in Brazil, as an initiative of the young people of Shalom Catholic Community, under the name of Trifest. The intention was to offer an alternative to a christian event to the young people of the city of Fortaleza: three days of shows of evangelization. Soon, the idea grew until it became the Halleluya Festival.
Theatre, music and dance unite on the stage of the Halleluya to announce the Love and the Mercy of God, in a new and creative way. Born among the young people as the expression of a new evangelization, the festival seeks to offer to them a healthy entertainment, with the possibility of receiving a joy that does not pass, this is where its slogan comes from, “the feast that never ends”.
Beyond artistic and cultural areas, the main stage of the festival will have thematic areas such as the Mercy Area and the cultural Arena.
MERCY AREA – The heat of the Halleluya
The art in the Halleluya is used as a way to promote an authentic experience with God’s mercy. That is why the Mercy Area is the heart of the Halleluya. In this area, there are confessionals for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and the Chapel with the Blessed Sacrament.
In the festival’s programation, the beauty of the art gives its place to its origin: Jesus through the Blessed Sacrament gets on the stage of the Halleluya. This is what became the symbol of the festival through all of its editions: a silent crowd adoring Jesus in the Eucharist.
THE CULTURAL AREA
In order to promote the cultural exchange between young people, the arena of the festival has a cultural area. Will be suggested short lectures about how to make a good confession, moments of prayer, and moments of sharing about the graces and the challenges of the faith experience with other young people from all over the world. Beyond this, the artists will be invited to share their experiences of evangelization.
ABOUT SHALOM CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
Shalom Catholic Community was born in 1982, in the city of Fortaleza in Brazil, where a group of young people who wanted to evangelize other youngs who were far from the Church, created a snack bar, called the Snack Shalom. Exactly two years before the snack, the founder of Shalom Community, offered his life to God and to the Church, as a gift to the evangelization of the youth through a letter to the Pope, who was John Paul II, on his visit in Fortaleza.
Shalom Catholic community is recognized by the Church as an international association of the faithful, following what the Church calls today the “new communities”. Being the Church, Shalom community serves in its work by a life consecration of its members. The main purpose is the evangelization and the formation of God’s children. The consecrated members are called to be, inside the Church, disciples and ministers of Peace; to chose, to live and announce to the world the Peace that Jesus is himself (cf. Eph 2, 14)
