“If Easter is about the power of God, then the Friday before is about the weakness of humanity,” says Scott Erickson, an artist in Portland, Oregon, who was inspirited to bring the stations of the cross to the street. He wanted to offer what he calls “not just a religious experience but a human experience” to commuters, those who may be going to and from work and home, who may not be in church on Sundays. So he created and then posted 12 large stations of the cross along one of the biking-commuter lanes in the city. Close-ups of the images he created are found on his website, and he makes them available to others who may want to bring the stations to their own communities.
