He’s only been doing this for two years, but taking photos of dogs in New York City has become a kind of spiritual experience for Elias Weiss Friedman. Known as the “Dogist,” the photographer and author has 1.7 million followers on Twitter (@thedogist). In this short documentary by E. J. McLeavey-Fisher, we get a peek into Friedman’s life as he roams the neighborhoods and parks of the Big Apple looking for dogs and their owners. Although he doesn’t have a dog (or a family) of his own, Friedman’s work has been an antidote to some of the loneliness and isolation he often feels, and he finds joy and humor in the images he creates.
