“Even if there were a major blizzard, we would continue to march. We would never cancel,” Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life Education and Defense Fund, told Aleteia.
If the weather reports are correct, a major blizzard is exactly what’s headed right for Washington DC, on the evening of the 2016 March for Life on Friday, January 22, the 43rd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion.
Since the storm isn’t expected to hit DC until the afternoon or evening, it shouldn’t have much of an impact on the march itself. “The March for Life will go on. Although, we may have a slightly abbreviated rally,” she said. The rally is scheduled to take place at 12 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument, and the March will begin at 1 p.m. on Constitution Avenue, between 15th and 17th streets.
In social media comments tagged #WhyWeMarch, made available in a live feed on the March for Life’s website, marchers are sharing what motivated them to join this year’s march and are posting photos as they make their way toward Washington. Those who have decided to cancel their travel plans have shared their disappointment in having to miss the march, but many more have posted about their determination to make the trip to Washington in spite of the weather.
In the event that marchers end up stranded in Washington, the city itself boasts more than 28,000 hotel rooms, and rooms should become available, as cancellations are expected this weekend.
