“This year I’m not looking back to who I was because I’m gonna be someone.”
Each new year begins with the enthusiasm of good intentions. And even if we don’t want to admit it, each of us takes personal stock of ourselves. We want the new year to be better, and we set goals to achieve or resolve not to repeat the same mistakes.
JJ Heller, in all her sparkling freshness, shares with us her resolutions for the new year and offers a slice of life and courage.
There is no use living in regret and dwelling on what doesn’t work. It’s not important how many times we fall but rather how many times we manage to get up. We need to train our eyes to see what’s positive in situations, always and everywhere, since this is the only way to feel alive instead of feeling numb.
What if we were to learn to think a little less about ourselves and more about others? This is a great goal and a great challenge.
JJ Heller speaks to the present moment and encourages us to change beginning now, not turning back to look at who we were but looking to the future to become better people — people capable of loving, of giving ourselves to others.
Happy New Year! It’s starting right here.
The song “This Year” is from the 2015 album, Song of a Living Heart.
