Simcha Fisher Comes to Aleteia

Elizabeth Scalia - published on 11/25/15

Best-selling author and popular speaker to blog on family and faith, and "Swimming in the Dark"

We have very much enjoyed being able to present Deacon Greg Kandra’s blog to our readers (and he certainly keeps us up-to-the-minute with important and interesting headlines), but his solitary blog seemed kind of lonely to us. Besides, we thought if we were going to have one blog by a male, we might as well be complementary and install a blog by a female as well, and one who can speak to Catholic lifestyle topics. Who better to approach than Simcha Fisher—happily married, mother of 10, best-selling author of The Sinner’s Guide to Natural Family Planning, columnist at the National Catholic Register and sometime radio-show co-host.

As happened with our last blogger announcement, Simcha arrives to Aleteia while we are in the middle of busy times—not only are we preparing our coverage for the pope’s visit to Africa and scheduling lots of Thanksgiving and Advent-themed material for you, but we are in the middle of launching a new section (have you seen “Cecilia” yet?), aimed at promoting Catholic music and artists from around the globe. So Simcha, like the deacon, is graciously settling in, offering as her first posts a quiz about the surpassing strangeness of her life and the deep need to appreciate the legacy of Harpo Marx, even as we are seeing to all the last-minute details, like installing her headshot on the home page.

It’s a very pretty shot, by the way, of a head full of smart ideas on art, poetry, Friday recipes, human stupidity and the need, sometimes, to just shake one’s (admirably full) mane, and laugh. We are very happy to welcome Simcha Fisher to our pages.

It’s probably smart to bookmark Simcha’s page while we’re in the midst of moving things around a bit. Subscribe to Simcha’s feed here. Follow her on Twitter and Facebook.
