The Painter of Jalouzi

Zoe Romanowsky - published on 10/03/15

Transforming a community, one pigment at a time

What would this world be like without color? This beautiful short film explores one artist’s determination to bring color to a place that is often gray with hopelessness — Jalouzi, one of the largest slums in Haiti.  This man is mobilizing people of all ages to help him paint the town, one wall and bus and roof at a time.

Beauty can transform us, and lift our hearts and minds to God.  Beauty will save the world, wrote Dostoyevsky, and Pope Francis spoke of this in his off-the-cuff remarks at the Festival of Families in Philadelphia at the World Meeting of the Families:

All that is good, all that is true, all that is beautiful brings us to God. Because God is good, God is beautiful, God is the truth.
