A Formidable Woman Reminds Us What Courage Looks Like

Zoe Romanowsky - published on 09/11/15

An acid victim turns a beauty tip into a reminder of women's dignity

In the light of Mary, the Church sees in the face of women the reflection of a beauty which mirrors the loftiest sentiments of which the human heart is capable: the self-offering totality of love; the strength that is capable of bearing the greatest sorrows; limitless fidelity and tireless devotion to work; the ability to combine penetrating intuition with words of support and encouragement. — Saint John Paul II Redemptoris Mater

In the face of Reshma Bano Qureshi, a victim of an acid attack in northern India, we catch a glimpse of what Saint John Paul II is speaking about– a heart of great courage and strength in deep sorrow.

Qureshi’s beauty tip video is part of a campaign called, “Make Love Not Scars,” which seeks to ban the common sale of sulfuric acid in India and draw attention to the dignity of women.
