Caritas Internationalis has releaed this video to highlight the “World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation,” which was designated by Pope Francis and will be celebrated on September 1 annually, beginning today.
The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation is meant to offer Christians, and any believer or person of good will, a chance to reflect on our personal participation in the call from God to be “custodians of creation.” The celebration invites us to turn to the Lord in thanksgiving for the gift of creation and ask for his mercy and forgiveness for the ways in which we continue to squander it.
The World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation is shared with the Orthodox Church and is seen as another way in which western and eastern Christians can grow in communion together. It is hoped that the Day of Prayer will help people to coming together to face important challenges related to the environment that affect us all.
