Video: Seven Years After Suicide Attempt Double Amputee Finds Meaning in Motherhood

Helen Goldsworthy was 18 yers old and didn’t want to live anymore. She lay down on some railroad tracks ready to die — but God had other plans. At the last minute, she moved her body, and rather than depart this world, she ended up in the hospital without her two legs. Five years later, as a double amputee, she gave birth to a little boy and found new purpose in motherhood. She says she dreads the day she will have to tell her son about how she lost her legs, but for now, she’s loving her life: In addition to her son, she has a supportive boyfriend, is studying for a degree, and works with charities who help those who suffer from depression and mental illness.
