9/11 Bell ringing video from San Juan Capistrano

Trisha Hoffman - published on 09/11/14

Victims and families remembered at Orange County historic landmark.

Thirteen years ago, on September 11, 2001, America experienced a horrific terrorist attack when the Twin Towers were destroyed in New York City.

Each year since, the bells at Mission San Juan Capistrano are rung 50 times to attract attention in the area and remember those who died and served during the attack.

The mission is known for its beautiful grounds, historic artwork, the famous Serra Chapel, and the Cliff Swallows that arrive every March 19.  The swallows travel 15,000 miles from Goya, Argentina to San Juan Capistrano and build more than 3,500 nests.
