America has had a few political dynasties in its history–the Kennedys come to mind right away. But if one young man’s hopes to go to Washington materialize, there may be a new dynasty in town.
And the prospects for that are already turning heads.
According to the Politico website, the nephew of Phil Robertson is running for Congress.
Robertson, of course, is the patriarch of the family featured in the TV hit show Duck Dynasty.
Zach Dasher, Robertson’s 36-year-old nephew, plans to run for the Louisiana 5th District seat in the House of Representatives.
If he has the kind of tenacity his uncle had in standing up for his beliefs, he should do pretty well.
Robertson, you’ll remember, came under fire for his blunt opinions about homosexuality. A&E suspended him from the show, but he stuck to his guns, and public pressure led to his reinstatement.
Dasher certainly seems to be cut from the same cloth when it comes to values.
“My basic platform begins with God,” he told Reuters. “I want to go to D.C. to restore America to what she once was.”
On Twitter, he identifies himself as a "Christian, conservative businessman" and father. His top tweet this afternoon said "I fully support Gov. Jindal’s decision to pull Louisiana out of Common Core."
Dasher may face Rep. Vance McAllister, who was caught on tape kissing a staffer earlier this year. It is unclear if McAllister will seek reelection; he has until August to decide.
The House hopeful and pharmaceutical company employee says he is running with the full support of the A&E “Duck Dynasty” gang. “Uncle Phil said he’s vetted me for 36 years,” Dasher said of the show’s patriarch.
