This Palm Sunday on St Peter’s Square was not only a beautiful entrance into Holy Week together with Pope Francis, but it also marked the conclusion of the international meetings of WYD here at the Vatican. Young delegates from around the world gathered this week to give their witness about the WYD in Rio de Janeiro 2013, and the Brazilians ‘passed the torch on’ to their brothers and sisters of Poland, where the next WYD is to be held in 2016.
This passing of the torch was symbolized at the close of the Palm Sunday Mass, when the youth of Brazil handed over the WYD Cross to the young people of Poland. A symbol of hope; a symbol of life: the cross was carried in the hands of these joyous young people, all eager to follow their Lord, and bring His love to the world.
