On Saturday 29 March Pope Francis will have a private audience – for the first time ever – with blind and deaf youth.
Francis is the first Pontiff to have met with these communities and it is something that all of the participating young people are overjoyed about.
Aleteia went to meet the youth of the Señora del Silencio community who have flown all the way from Argentina to be with their compatriot.
These young people were such a witness of the joy found in Jesus Christ. Full of smiles and laughter, some of them describe their feelings the day before they go to meet the Holy Father:
“I am so joyful! I’m going to hug pope Francis with all my strength!” exclaims 20 year old Priscilla Dadim.
Damian Dador, also 20, shares his friend’s joy: “I am so happy to see pope Francis! I will give him a gift of a Racing shirt (Porteño team).”
“I am so excited to see pope Francis” smiles Stella Maris Farfàn, “I hope that he calls the attention of the governments to help improve education with regards to disabilities.”
The Priest accompanying the young people on their historical journey to the heart of the Church – Father Delci from the Conceicao Filho – explained that the words he so often hears on these young people’s lips before they join the community is:
“I thought I was alone.” He added that he always proposes to them “Jesus as a friend who welcomes, who loves and who doesn’t exclude anyone.”
Indeed, all of the young people explained that in joining the community Señora del Silencio they found that they were not alone, but encountered companions living the same thing as they were, and received their unity and love in Christ.
