For the iphoneographer who has it all, here’s something more…A Beautiful Mess app has recently come out and quickly risen to the top of the bestseller list in the ever-transforming world of iphone applications.
Brought to us by Red Velvet Art LLC, its creators describe it as “a blog that inspires its readers to live a beautiful life.”
It features: Custom photo filters, Fun fonts for stylizing captions, Hand-drawn doodles by Elsie and Emma, Integration with Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
The basic app comes pre-loaded with 6 filters, 12 backgrounds, 5 fonts, 28 ‘hand drawn’ doodles and 12 ‘hand drawn’ phrases. However you can buy further add-ons to pad out the app, some of which include 7 more fonts, sketchbook borders, dainty borders, minimalist borders, word bubble doodles, arrows and symbol doodles, a whole load of hand drawn phrases, as well as mod and geometric backgrounds; all at $0.99 a pop.
So lets get down to details…
"Start at the very beginning" we hear you say. Well, that would involve opening the application up! Where you'll find the option to select an image from the camera roll or from one of the app’s backgrounds.
Next! embellish your image…this is the fun part. First by filter (there’s not actually that many to choose from). Second by borders; here they sneakily offer you the opportunity to buy a bushel of new borders which didn’t come with the package (we would have given this app a 10/10 if it had), then underneath you find the included borders, which aren’t half bad.
Next! we go on to the fonts and again we are kindly offered to buy an array of new fonts that weren't included. There are a good few to choose from in the package deal itself however; they’re pretty nifty and nicely varied. The doodles too have a good deal to choose from, with an array of different colours.
Lastly you get your phrases up. There are an assembly of ‘handwritten’ phrases to pick from, so you can add that final personal touch.
We finish by clicking “DONE” (although you probably didn’t need telling that) and it's saved on your roll and you are good to share your beautified photos with your nearest and dearest – unless they don’t have an iphone, then you'll probably have to draw a picture.
The app as a whole is definitely worth getting, particularly if you enjoy extending your artistic flare to your technological toys, or are a follower in general of A Beautiful Mess blog itself. That being said, we weren't a fan of how many extra’s there were to buy; it would have been simpler to have an all-inclusive deal offered. It does however get healthy 8.5/10.
We might just add that If A Beautiful Mess does one thing, it helps us to pay attention to the beautiful things around us, to participate in that beauty, adding our own little take to it and sharing it with others…that, friends, is pretty cool.
